How to create the perfect home office with the right desk
Whether you work full time at home, study or labour over your own personal projects after business hours, having a home office can be very handy. Having a comfortable and stylish office desk takes it one step further. Creating an office space that is functional but aesthetically pleasing enough for you to actually want to work in is easy to do with these tips.
While an office does need to be practical, adding some luxury and personality to the space can make a point of difference. It’s likely that you’ll be investing a lot of time working in your office space. Accordingly, it’s important to choose a desk that is not only comfortable, but looks great. Instead of choosing your standard office cubicle, why not select from a range of office desks that ooze style like the Josephine Scandinavian Style Desk.
Save the heavy computer equipment and endless cords for the corporate office and instead keep the tech gear to a minimum. If you do need large computer equipment such as servers, printers and scanners, keep them hidden in a cupboard and your cords under control.
Without storage, your desk will end up in shambles and you will be reluctant to spend time at it. Storage doesn’t have to be boring or look too utilitarian. Pieces such as our Haakon Bookshelf will keep books and files neat and tidy while maintaining the aesthetics and still making your office feel like a part of your home.
Keeping your home office space cohesive is just as important as it is for your living room. Try keeping your storage accessories such as boxes, files and folders to one colour. Select desk stationery that is of a similar style to create an uncluttered and inviting look.
Break-out spaces or somewhere else to sit away from your desk can be a great way to re-energise and generate creative thinking. A simple lounge chair in the corner, like our Alexis, could be the perfect solution. Or if you have the space, a round table such as our Finley with a couple of Vaasa Bettina chairs could be the ideal place to step away from the computer screen and get re-inspired.
Your home office shouldn’t be void of beautiful things. Artwork or large framed photos can be really striking and create a visual impact. Vision boards, candles and stunning lamps can all add a little personality and a touch of luxury to your home office. Be careful not to go over the top with personal touches so as to still promote productivity!
Remember, a home office doesn’t have to look and feel like an office in a high rise. Be brave and select furniture you love and focus on the details. Small touches like adding indoor plants, a stack of beautiful books and sculptural objects can bring liveliness and personality to any home office.
