Easy-peasy Spring Cleaning Tips

Winter has passed and looking around your home, you’re seeing all the clutter and build-up that staying indoors brought. What a mess, right? Well, thankfully Spring presents the perfect opportunity freshen up, clear out and organize your home to make it feel like new! We’ve listed our top tips below to help you conquer your spring-cleaning mission.

1. Make a checklist

One of the best ways to get any task done is to list the steps out. Much like a new year’s resolution, think of all the tasks to be accomplished, write them down and list them in order of importance.. Section your house into different areas and take down bullet points for each. This will make your cleaning organised!

2. Liven it up with a playlist

Get your groove on while you work! Listen to your favourite tunes and you won’t even notice the cleaning pass by. The faster the music, the more subconsciously you’ll match the rhythm with your work.

3. Let there be light.

Open up those windows and let the sunshine into your home! Not only does natural light let warmth and brightness in, it livens up the mood inside. Surprisingly, most dirt builds up within the exterior of your windows and it should be the main focus of your dusting. One way to brighten up your home is to change curtains with lighter, sheerer fabrics, perfect for the sunny season.

4. Freshen up carpet on the cheap.

One trick to revive your carpet and remove the stale smell without spending up big, is to scatter baking soda all over it. Let it sit for a few hours and vacuum the powder afterwards for an instant refresh!

5. Dishwasher Diligence.

Remove visible stuck-on food and stains by using baking soda on a damp sponge and by wiping around the machine’s edges. To keep your dishwasher smelling fresh and to keep old food particles away, run an empty dishwasher with vinegar. Simply add a cup of white vinegar into the bottom of an empty dishwasher and run a normal cycle for that brand new dishwasher feeling!

6.Move your furniture with ease.

Don’t let your Scandinavian furniture get scratched or worse, ruined when reorganising and cleaning. Avoid damaging your favourite furniture or scuffing beautiful timber floors by placing two clean towels under each piece for easy manoeuvring.

7. Pillow Talk

Sometimes, blankets, pillows and mattresses don’t always need to be cleaned using your washing machine. Yes, we said it! Since sunlight can kill germs, air out your bedding outside on a warm, sunny day for that real spring clean feeling!

8. Keep it cool

Break down the tasks in order to have a spotless refrigerator. Start with checking if any food needs to be thrown out. Try washing the interior with a solution of two tablespoons of baking soda for every quart of warm water. The solution softens hardened spills and disinfects your fridge too!
