How to style a bedroom?
Who doesn't want to wake up in a dreamy bedroom, where the linen is fresh, the bed is comfortable, and the side tables are styled to perfection? Getting this luxurious look and feel is easier than you think, in fact, the basics of a beautiful bedroom lay in just five golden rules.
1. The Bed
Obviously, we should start with the most important element of the bedroom and that is the bed itself. The style of your bed and bedhead will dictate the aesthetic and tone of the rest of your room so keep this in mind when selecting these key furniture items. Ultimately your bed should be comfortable and functional above all else so invest in a good quality mattress and even splurge on a cloud-like mattress topper. Select a good quality bed frame that will last you for years to come and a bedhead that reflects your personal style and flair. Ensure the bedhead you choose will remain relevant instead of getting caught up in the trend or style of the moment. Your bed is the ultimate styling palette of your bedroom, so choose wisely!
2. All Things Floor
Rugs are a great way to add some texture to the bedroom and considering our love affair with wooden floorboards and polished concrete they are also much needed! Nobody wants to hop out of their warm cosy bed in the morning only to have their feet hit the ice-cold floor and a gorgeous floor rug offers the perfect solution to this problem. In the bedroom you have a few options when it comes to adding in rugs, you can go with an oversized rug and position it 1/4 of the way under the end of your bed and have it even on both bedsides. You can also place two smaller rugs or sheepskins on either side of the bed so that feet are ensured to find the perfect warm spot to rest every time they slip out from the covers.
3. Colour
Bedrooms are sanctuaries of calm and relaxation so it is vital to keep this in mind when selecting the colour palette of your room. Neutral schemes do tend to work best, with soft whites and washed out pastel shades being on trend currently. However bedrooms are also incredibly personal spaces and if you feel inclined to add in a patterned wallpaper or boldly hued feature wall, then that is entirely up to you, but do ensure to tie other decor pieces back to this colour palette to maximise cohesiveness in your interior. There are plenty of gorgeous wallpapers out there that also make for fabulous statement wall art if you're more daring in nature!
4. Bedside Love
Not only are bedside tables stylistically brilliant, but they are also incredibly functional pieces of furniture to add to your bedroom. Whether you have two that match, built in ones or just the one the option is entirely yours! It is best to keep bedsides simple and not to over clutter them, a rule of three is usually good practice with a light, an accessory and some greenery. If you are someone that likes to keep a stack of books by your bedside then consider choosing a two-tiered bedside or one that has drawers or doors on it to hide your collection. Ensure the style of your bedsides is in line with your bed and if you're choosing a colour or metal option work back with the existing tones in your room when selecting.
5. Go Green
Our love affair with indoor plants is showing no sign of abating, in fact it is slowly spreading to every room of the home, the bedroom is no exception! Not only are plants brilliant to look at but they also offer many health benefits and who wouldn't want all that green goodness in their bedroom! Ensure you select plants that will suit the lighting availability in your room and perhaps take them outside every now and then for a breath of fresh air and sunshine. You can add plants to your bedroom in a myriad of different ways from pots on window sills, hanging planters, pot plant stands, by resting them on your bedside or furnishings in your room, or simply with the addition of a focal plant and pot in a corner of your room, the possibilities are endless and results are always exquisite.
