In this blog post, we chat with Design Director, Maddy Gecsek about the key elements, design philosophies, and the careful selection of furniture that make this project a unique and luxurious haven.

RJ: What are the key elements and inspirations behind this project?

MG: This project is a rural holiday retreat for our clients who are internationally based. They wanted a place they could spend their holidays that was relaxed and low maintenance. The driving force was low maintenance, kid friendly yet still luxurious. They wanted to create a house focused on connection, entertainment and family.

RJ: Are there any specific design principles or philosophies that guide your work at Gecsek?

MG: Quality, sustainability, and durability. Designing homes that are as practical as they are beautiful. We pride ourselves on our ability to convey our client’s needs and translate this into functional spaces that can be lived in and still look amazing.

RJ: Are there any specific furniture or decor pieces that are essential for creating this style in the home?

MG: A large coffee table was a must for hosting family games night! We also prioritised high-quality, durable and comfortable dining chairs. The centralised dining area is well suited to lots of entertaining as our clients are big dinner party lovers! The Profile Dining Chair was the perfect blend of comfort and style.

RJ: Can you share some advice or recommendations for homeowners who want to refresh or update their interiors but need help figuring out where to start?

MG: As Marie Kondo always says, 'Does this spark joy?' if you love it then keep it. Design your space around the existing pieces you love. If you have your grandma's heirloom dining table and can't bear the thought of parting ways with it but still want a modern refresh - new chairs, and a rug combined with styled table pieces can bring it a new life.

RJ: We love how the items you picked from RJ Living fit into the home. If you had a wishlist for any RJ Living items, what would it be?

MG: The Gather Dining Table is a timeless piece that fits perfectly into so many projects. Being solid timber, it'll not only last for a very long time but it has a beautiful weight to it that shows its durability and quality. We're also obsessing over the new Restore Bed in Opal Forest! Nothing excites us (and our clients) more than a cosy bedroom. We have a soft spot for green (as you can probably tell!).
