How tall should your bedside table be?
Match the height of the bedside table to the top of your mattress, or sit it a little below. That way you can reach a glass of water without looking for it. Our bedside tables run from 40cm to 60cm tall, which covers most bed heights: a low platform bed pairs well with something around 40cm to 45cm, while a taller frame or a thicker mattress suits 50cm to 60cm. Measure from the floor to the top of your mattress, then choose a table within about 5cm either side of that figure.
For width, ours run 41cm to 62cm. A narrower table (41cm to 47cm) keeps a walkway clear in a tighter room. A wider one (55cm to 62cm) gives you room for a lamp, a book and a glass without crowding. Depths run 35cm to 55cm, and the deeper ones need more clearance from the side of the bed, so check that before you commit.
Then decide on storage: an open shelf keeps things light and airy, a single drawer hides the clutter, and two drawers suit anyone who wants the surface completely clear. If you would like the bedside tables to sit inside the bed head rather than beside it, look at our Hiatus bed heads, which wing forward 61.5cm on each side to hold them.

Should my bedside tables match my bed frame exactly?
Should my bedside tables match my bed frame exactly?
While matching creates a cohesive look, it's not mandatory. Coordinating pieces in similar tones or styles work well. Many designers prefer slight variations in texture or finish to add visual interest while maintaining harmony. Ensure all pieces are proportionally balanced.
How tall should my bedside table be relative to my mattress?
How tall should my bedside table be relative to my mattress?
Bedside tables should be level with or slightly below your mattress top for easy access. This typically means 55-70cm high, depending on your mattress thickness and bed frame height. You should be able to reach items comfortably from a lying position.
Do I need two matching bedside tables?
Do I need two matching bedside tables?
Two matching tables create symmetry and balance, but it's not required. Different tables can work if they're similar in scale and style. Consider your room's layout, available space, and whether both sides of the bed are accessible when deciding.
