Will a king bed fit your room?

An Australian king mattress is 183 x 203cm, which is 30cm wider than a queen for the same length. The bed itself takes up more floor than the mattress, and how much more varies across our ranges. An Ambience King bed base sits on a 191 x 211cm footprint, only 8cm wider than the mattress, with 15cm of clearance underneath for storage. A Restore King sits on 245 x 265cm, which is 62cm wider and 62cm deeper.

As a working rule, allow 60cm of clear floor on each side you walk down. That means a low-profile king base works in a room from about 305cm wide, while a deep upholstered king frame wants closer to 365cm. Measure the room first, then check the footprint of the range you like rather than working from the mattress size.

Choose a king if two of you want room to spread out, or if the bedroom is large enough that a queen would look undersized. The length is the same as a queen, so a king gives you width, not legroom. If your room is tighter than you would like, a queen with a low-profile bed base recovers a surprising amount of floor.

What's the difference between a bed frame and a bed base?

A bed frame typically includes a headboard and sometimes a footboard, while a bed base is the supportive structure that holds the mattress. Many bed bases can be used with separate headboards for a customised look, allowing for greater flexibility in design and the ability to update your bedroom's appearance without replacing the entire bed.

How do I know if a bed base will fit my mattress?

Our king bed bases are designed to fit standard Australian king-size mattresses, which measure 183cm x 203cm. Always check the product specifications to ensure compatibility with your mattress. It's important to note that while the standard sizes are consistent, there can be slight variations in mattress thickness, so consider this when choosing your bed base, especially if you're opting for a design with built-in storage or a specific aesthetic that might be affected by mattress height.

Are bed bases easy to assemble?

Most of our bed bases come with clear assembly instructions and required hardware. While some customers prefer professional assembly, many find the process straightforward and manageable as a DIY project. The complexity of assembly can vary depending on the design and features of the bed base, so it's worth considering your comfort level with DIY tasks when making your selection.

Can I use a bed base without a headboard?

Absolutely. Many of our bed bases are designed to look complete without a headboard, offering a clean and modern aesthetic. However, you can always add a headboard later if desired. This flexibility allows you to change the look of your bedroom over time or adapt to different interior design trends without needing to replace your entire bed.

How do I care for my bed base?

Care instructions vary depending on the material. Timber bases may require occasional dusting and polishing to maintain their luster and protect the wood. Upholstered bases can be vacuumed regularly to remove dust and debris, and spot-cleaned as needed. For more stubborn stains or deep cleaning, professional services may be recommended. Always refer to the specific care instructions provided with your purchase to ensure the longevity and beauty of your bed base.
