Queen Beds & Bed Bases

Let your home breathe easy with queen size beds & bed frames, warmth and durability in every piece.

Will a queen bed fit your room?

An Australian queen mattress is 153 x 203cm, but the bed itself always takes up more floor than that, and how much more depends on the style. Our timber Serene Queen sits on a 165 x 213cm footprint, 12cm wider than the mattress. Our upholstered Restore Queen sits on 215 x 265cm, which is 62cm wider and 62cm deeper. That is a real difference when you are working out whether a wardrobe door will still open.

As a working rule, allow at least 60cm of clear walking space on each side you need to get past, and 60cm at the foot if you walk around the end. Measure the room, then check the footprint of the range you like in the table below rather than assuming the mattress size.

A queen suits most main bedrooms and works well in a guest room. If your room is tight, look at a low-profile bed base rather than a deep upholstered frame. If you have the space and want more room to spread out, a king is 30cm wider for the same 203cm length.

What is the difference between a bed frame and a bed base?

A bed frame typically includes a headboard and footboard, while a bed base is the foundation that supports the mattress. Many modern designs combine these elements into a single unit, offering a seamless and stylish solution for your bedroom furniture needs.

How do I choose the right size bed base?

For a queen mattress, ensure you select a queen-sized bed base. Measure your bedroom to confirm adequate space for the bed and surrounding furniture. Consider the dimensions of your mattress and any additional features you may want, such as built-in storage or an extended headboard.

Are bed bases necessary?

Yes, bed bases provide essential support for your mattress, helping to maintain its shape and extend its lifespan. They also elevate your bed, making it easier to get in and out. Furthermore, bed bases can enhance air circulation around your mattress, reducing moisture buildup and promoting a healthier sleep environment.

Can I use a box spring with a platform bed base?

Platform bed bases are designed to support a mattress without a box spring. Using both may result in an overly high bed and could affect mattress performance. However, some platform beds are compatible with box springs if you prefer additional height or a more traditional feel.

How do I care for my bed base?

Regular dusting and vacuuming will keep your bed base clean. For upholstered bases, spot clean as needed and consider professional cleaning for deeper maintenance. Wooden bed bases may benefit from occasional polishing or waxing to maintain their finish, while metal frames can be wiped down with a damp cloth to remove any accumulated dust or grime.
